Why your website gets traffic but no leads
Visitors arrive, look around and leave without a word. Here are the most common reasons, and how to fix each one.
Your analytics show thousands of visitors a month, but the enquiry inbox is quiet. It's one of the most frustrating problems in marketing, and one of the most common. The good news: it's usually caused by a handful of fixable issues.
1. The wrong people are arriving
Traffic is only useful if it's the right traffic. Broad keywords, untargeted ads or viral social posts can bring visitors who were never going to buy.
Fix: Check where your visitors come from and which pages they land on. Shift budget and content towards searches with buying intent, like "website design company in Bangalore", rather than broad topics.
2. Visitors can't tell what you do in five seconds
If your homepage headline is clever but vague, people leave before scrolling. They should instantly understand what you offer, who it's for and why you're different.
Fix: Rewrite the top of your homepage in plain words. Add one clear action, such as "Get a free quote".
3. The site is slow, especially on mobile
Most Indian buyers browse on their phones, often on patchy connections. Every extra second of loading loses people before they see anything.
Fix: Compress images, remove unused plugins and scripts, and test your site on a mid-range phone using Google's PageSpeed Insights.
4. There's no reason to trust you
Buyers look for proof: client logos, case studies, reviews, real photos of your team and office, and clear contact details. Without them, even interested visitors hesitate.
Fix: Add trust signals near your calls to action, not just on an "About" page buried in the menu.
5. Getting in touch is hard work
Long forms, hidden phone numbers and "contact us" pages with no clear next step all kill enquiries.
Fix: Keep forms short (name, phone, what you need), add a WhatsApp button, and show your phone number in the header on mobile.
6. Nobody follows up fast enough
Sometimes the leads do come in, but they go cold in an inbox. An enquiry answered in minutes is far more likely to turn into a conversation than one answered the next day.
Fix: Route form submissions to WhatsApp or your CRM and send an instant acknowledgement automatically.
A simple checklist
- Are the right people visiting? Check traffic sources and landing pages.
- Is it clear what you do within five seconds?
- Does the site load fast on a phone?
- Is there visible proof near every call to action?
- Can someone contact you in under 30 seconds?
- Does every lead get a reply within minutes?
Fix these six things and the same traffic you already have will start turning into conversations.
